Kuwait hangs prince convicted of murdering another royal
Kuwait has executed a member of the ruling family in the first such case in the history of the Persian Gulf country.
The official KUNA news agency on Wednesday identified the prince as Sheikh Faisal Abdullah al-Sabah.
The Kuwaiti prince was convicted of killing another royal, Sheikh Bassel al-Sabah, over a dispute seven years ago.
Authorities also hanged a woman, who had burned dozens of people to death during a wedding party, along with five other people earlier in the day.
Nusra al-Enezi was convicted of killing about 57 people in 2009, when she set a tent hosting the wedding ceremony of her husband ablaze. Most of those killed in the fire, described as one of the most devastating crimes in the history of Kuwait, were women and children. Nusra, who had used petrol to burn the tent down, later claimed she had been seeking revenge against her husband for marrying a second wife.
The other people that were executed included two from Egypt and the remaining from Bangladesh, the Philippines and Ethiopia.
KUNA said the Filipino and Ethiopian convicts, both of them female, had committed murder against members of their employers' families. The crimes were unrelated. The Bangladeshi man had been convicted of abduction and rape while the two Egyptians were hanged for premeditated murder.
