The Iran women's national football team has been drawn in Group D of the forthcoming 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women's Asian Cup qualifiers, which are scheduled to be staged in April.

During the draw ceremony in the Jordanian capital city of Amman on Saturday, the Iranian outfit joined squads from Myanmar, Singapore, Syria and Vietnam in the group stage of the event.

Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates formed Group A in the upcoming tournament.

While Hong Kong, India, North Korea, South Korea and Uzbekistan compete in Group B of the event, Thai sportswomen will take on counterparts from Chinese Taipei, Guam, Lebanon and Palestine.

The 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualification will kick off on April 3, 2017, and will conclude on April 22.

The three highest-ranked women’s national teams from the last edition of AFC Women’s Asian Cup – Japan, Australia and China – have already received automatic qualification into the eight-team 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup.

The group winners of each of the four qualifying groups will book a berth in the women's association football tournament in Jordan.

Jordan has also obtained automatic qualification as the host nation, but the squad has expressed interest to participate in the qualifiers. Therefore, in case they finish at the top of their qualifying group, the runner-up team will advance to the final competition as well.
