US police have clashed with protesters demonstrating the inauguration and presidency of Donald Trump in Washington, DC.

An author and journalist believes that the anti-Trump demonstrators are protesting “the wrong thing,” while ignoring the major issue which is “America’s debauched political system.”

“America is a one-party state with two right wings. There really is not much difference between the Democrats and the Republicans and as low an approval rating as Trump had, [his Democratic rival] Hillary [Clinton] had just as low an approval rating - the two of them, the most disliked presidential aspirants in US history. So whether it was Hillary or it was Trump, the debauched system will continue,” Stephen Lendman told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

“This is what needs to be protested against. If this does not change, it does not matter who holds the nation's highest office,” he added.

The analyst further dismissed the ongoing protests against Trump on his inauguration day as “unusual,” arguing that they are a “pro-Hillary dark forces’ effort” to "delegitimize" him before he even takes office.

Lendman also said that Trump has no public record and it is not clear what he will do as president. Therefore, the analyst said, people should hold him accountable for “what he does, not what he says.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Lendman criticized former US President Barack Obama for waging a war on humanity, serving Wall Street and war profiteers, and putting ordinary people to misery at home and abroad during his eight-year tenure.

He also noted that Wall Street and war profiteers are “very concerned” about Trump’s talk about being conciliatory with Russia, “because they thrive on war and endless violence.”

The analyst further argued that Trump has no chance of uniting the country, because "these dark forces" will continue being “disruptive” and there may be street protests going on endlessly.
