World No.2 Novak Djokovic has endured a shock defeat, at the hands of world No.117 Denis Istomin, in the second round of the Australian Open.

The Serbian ace began the game in shaky fashion and lost the opening set 7-6, but managed to refocus to take the 2nd 7-5.

The Uzbek put himself in the driver’s seat in the 3rd and claimed the set 6-2, before Djokovic fought back to level the game at 2-all and force a decider.

Istomin was the brighter of the 2 as he drilled some strong serves , wrapping up the match with a hard-fought 3 sets to 2 victory.

This is the first time since 2008 Wimbledon, that the Serb was eliminated in the 2nd round of a grand slam.
