‘Nozawa Onsen’ Fire Festival celebrated Japanese city of Nagano

‘Nozawa Onsen’ Fire Festival in Japan.

Thousands of people have gathered in the Japanese city of Nagano to celebrate the ‘Nozawa Onsen’ Fire Festival.

The fiesta is considered as one of the three biggest fire festivals in Japan. It takes place every year in January and is staged by males aged between 25 and 42.

Japanese believe through this traditional ceremony, the men are able to get rid of evil spirits and pray for a happy marriage.

It takes roughly one-hundred villagers to build a shrine for the ‘Nozawa’ Fire Festival. Men drag the trees down the hill to use in construction of the shrine, which is later burnt to the ground.
