Merkel has pursued disastrous policy for Germany: Analyst

US President-elect Donald Trump has criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s immigration policies, saying she made a “catastrophic” mistake by accepting thousands of refugees. Trump also criticized the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), saying he had warned long ago that the US-led military alliance had problems.

E. Michael Jones, editor of Culture Wars Online Magazine, believes the open door policy towards asylum seekers has been a “disaster”, adding that there is a worldwide revulsion against it.

“This policy was also instrumentalized by certain forces in Europe who used this mass migration as a way of attacking German sovereignty, the sovereignty of every single country in Europe and now it backfired. It backfired on these people. Everybody hates globalism now and now there is a reaction and now they are going to have to come up with a new policy,” the analyst told Press TV in an interview on Monday.

He also denounced Europe’s support for the war in Syria, which has resulted in the influx of refugees.

Jones further noted Angela Merkel did not represent Germany’s interests, arguing that as a “vassal” of the United States, she pursued a disastrous policy for the country - namely alienation of Russia.

“Germany needs Russia. They alienated the Russians. They need to sell things to the Russians. They need Russian gas and oil. The only reason Angela Merkel did this was to do the bidding of her American masters,” he stated.

The analyst also opined that Trump was “absolutely right” when he said that NATO is “obsolete” and “it deserves to go out of existence” because it has been used as a weapon of Western aggression against Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
