As a political leader, Brack Obama has been a disaster for his party. Since his inauguration in 2009, roughly 1,100 elected Democrats nationwide have been ousted by Republicans. Democrats lost their majorities in the US House and Senate; they now hold just 18 of the 50 governorships, and only 31 of the nation’s 99 state legislative chambers.
When Mr. Obama took office, the US economy was in free fall. Unemployment had spiked to double digits, housing prices had collapsed and the financial industry teetered on the brink of collapse. The picture eight years later is one of stability and modest growth, although critics will argue that things could be better, and blue-collar Trump voters in the industrial states seemed to agree.
