Over 500 cyclists have taken part in Moscow’s winter parade despite low temperature and cold spell.

Participants have braved temperatures as low as minus 27 degrees Celsius to attend a 15-kilometer parade. They pedaled along the banks of the frozen Moscow river in front of the Kremlin walls.

The event is aimed at encouraging cycling in the sprawling Russian capital. Organizers ignored calls to cancel the competition despite warnings over the freezing temperatures.

Moscow is now in the grips of a severe cold snap that has seen temperatures drop across Europe.
