The UK Queen's death: What if....

Concerns have been mounting lately over the health condition of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth the Second. For the first time in the past 30 years, she failed to appear for a New Year’s Day service at her estate. This triggered speculations that the 90-year-old Monarch is not doing fine.  Immediately afterwards, one serious question gradually emerged in the media.  What would happen to the future of the United Kingdom should the Queen die?  Many believe that the Queen’s death will be the most disruptive event in Britain in over 70 years. After a new Monarch takes the throne, there could be a long chain of changes throughout the country.  No specific shift in terms of domestic politics and the agenda for foreign affairs may take place.

Turkey's terrorist nightmare

Another deadly blast in Turkey. This time an explosion rocked Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city. Two people were killed and at least 10 others injured in the blast near a courthouse. Gunfire broke out between police and the men suspected to have orchestrated the car bombing. Turkish authorities announced police had killed two assailants involved in the terrorist attack but one of them managed to escape. There has been no claim of responsibility for the car bombing yet, but Turkish officials blamed the militant Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK, for the attack. Thursday’s deadly blast is the latest in a series of terrorist attacks targeting civilians across Turkey in recent months.

Turkey stuck in Syria

Turkey’s operation Euphrates shield continues inside Syria with no signs of an end in sight. Turkish forces and their allied FSA militants backed by Turkish warplanes are trying to push Daesh out of the Syrian town of al-Bab. The operation is proving more and more costly by the day as it’s taking a toll on Turkish forces. Ankara says the offensive for al-Bab is part of its campaign to push Daesh back deeper into Syria to secure the country’s borders. Turkey’s involvement in Syria has drawn condemnation from the Syrian government which calls the incursion by its neighbor as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty.
