Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka has advanced to the semifinals of Brisbane International in Australia, beating Britain’s Kyle Edmund 2 sets to 1.

However, it was far from an easy victory for the 3 time grand slam champion. Edmund won the first set 7-6 in a tiebreak. But, Wawrinka won the next 2 sets with a similar scoreline of 6-4 to beat the world No. 51, 2 sets to 1.

The Swiss, who is playing in Brisbane for the first time, will next take on Kei Nishikori.

3rd seed Nishikori himself eased past Australia's Jordan Thompson with a brace of breadsticks in the quarters on Friday.

The 27 year old Japanese needed just 61 minutes to eliminate Thompson with humiliation in front of his home crowd.
