People in north china’s Inner Mongolia region have witnessed colorful light pillars in the sky.
The light pillar, is an atmospheric phenomenon in the form of a vertical column of light that usually extends above or below a light source. Meteorologists say light pillars are peculiar to winter.
Because of low temperature, humidity is relatively high with much water vapor floating in the air. The low temperature will condense into small ice crystals.
When the night falls and the city's lights brighten, the crystal will reflect the beams and result in light pillars.
