A British man has been shot and killed while sitting in a stationary car in West Bromwich, West Midlands, England, officials said.

The man, in his 30s, was shot dead at about 2.30 pm on Tuesday at the junction with Dartmouth Street and High Street.

The victim, who was a passenger in the car, was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Officers, who arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a shooting, cordoned off the area and a forensic team began carrying out inquiries at the scene.

“The investigation is at an early stage. My officers are carrying out inquiries at the scene,” Detective Inspector Martin Slevin said. “There will also be extra reassurance patrols in the local area.”

Police said that a post-mortem examination will take place.

The car, a Ford hatchback, appeared to have a damaged windscreen. It was taken away by a recovery vehicle.
