Russian President Vladimir Putin has once again come first on Forbes magazine’s list of the world's most powerful people followed by US President-elect Donald Trump.

The Forbes list, released on Wednesday, is compiled in consideration of the candidates' financial resources, their power in multiple spheres over a large number of people, and if they actively used their power.

It lists 74 people one for every 100 million of the planet’s inhabitants – annually and is currently in its eighth year.

2016 is the fourth consecutive year that Putin has come in first place in the list.

“Forbes’s list this year of the world’s most powerful people reflects rapid and profound change happening around the globe,” said Forbes contributing editor David Ewalt.
