Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the Israeli regime has never sought the establishment of peace in the region, adding that resistance is the only option in the face of aggression and occupation by the Tel Aviv regime.
“Today, there is a strong argument in the world public opinion that the Zionist regime [of Israel] has never been and will never be after peace,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, the head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, in Tehran on Tuesday.
This logic must be used to prove that there is “no option but Jihad and resistance for Palestinians” to counter the Israeli regime, he added.
He added that big powers have been providing Israel with extensive and all-out military, political and economic support since the formation of this illegitimate regime, stressing the importance of enlightening the public opinion in the United States and Europe about the fact that the Israeli regime cannot be a reliable ally.
Rouhani said the Israeli regime has exploited the security woes in the region over the past two decades and paved the way for terrorists to engage the regional countries with their own security issues and divert their attention from the Palestinian cause.
Noting that restoring the Palestinian people’s rights and the liberation of Jerusalem al-Quds must be the main concern of all countries in the region, Rouhani added that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement and other resistance groups shoulder a heavy responsibility to help the materialization of the Palestinian cause.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic has always backed the Palestinian people and would spare no efforts in this regard.
The president pointed to the recent achievements by regional nations in the fight against terrorists and expressed confidence that the plot aimed at deflecting the public opinion away from the issue of Palestine would fail.
Abdullah, for his part, said some regional countries seek to create various conflicts in order to distract the public opinion from the Palestinian issue and pave the way for the recognition of Israel.
He added that the Palestinians would not have been able to bring their situation and stances to the attention of the people in the world had it not been for Iran’s support.
Despite all difficulties and pressure, the Palestinian people would enthusiastically continue with their resistance against the Israeli regime, Abdullah stressed.
