France wants state of emergency extended by 6 months

France seeks to extend the state of emergency until July 15, 2017. The heightened security status which gives police additional powers has been extended four times since it was introduced in November 2015 following the attacks in Paris. The decision comes despite decreasing support for the policy, as well as continued allegations of civil rights abuses.
