Iran national women’s under-22 rugby sevens team

Iran national women’s under-22 rugby sevens team has made quite an achievement at a four-team round-robin tournament in Germany, finishing in the second place at the end of the event.

The Iranian squad, which had been camping in the German capital city of Berlin for more than a week, subdued the USV Potsdam Rugby club 26-9 in its third and final match on Saturday, the Islamic Republic of Iran Federation of Sport Associations website reported.

Earlier, the Iranian sportswomen had sustained a 5-19 loss at the hands of counterparts from AK Rugby club in their second meet.

The Persians routed the Berliner SV 92 Rugby club 29-0 in their opening encounter.

Iran national women’s under-22 rugby sevens team had Asma Fakhri, Asma Babajani, Parisa Garavand, Mona Maydani, Zahra Rastgou-Moghaddam, Motahhareh Saffari, Ghazaleh Sarcheshmeh, Mahdieh Dehqan, Shaghayegh Zainali, Zahra Kalhor, Mehrsa Khalafi, Umulbanin Mohseni, Sheida Dadashi, Haniyeh Alinejad and Haniyeh Makki in its line-up during the four-team tournament in Germany.

Nazanin Hosseini led the team as head coach and Atousa Mirhadi was the outfit’s manager.

Rugby sevens is a variant of rugby union in which teams are made up of seven players playing seven-minute halves, instead of the usual 15 players playing 40-minute halves.

Rugby sevens is administered by World Rugby, which is the body responsible for Rugby Union worldwide.
