Complaint alleges perjury and fraud in Jill Stein recount petition

A US Green Party member unhappy with the party's presidential candidate Jill Stein's move to challenge the election vote count in three states has filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Attorney General, alleging that her petition may have contained false statements under oath.

The petition, filed by American journalist and radio host Don DeBar on Monday, alleges that the false statements may have induced the state to fraudulently conduct a recount and caused thousands of people to donate a reported sum of $6 million to Stein's effort.

Stein submitted the recount request to Wisconsin authorities on Friday. She also planned to formally file for recounts with authorities in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton narrowly lost these three states to Republican Donald Trump, the president-elect.  If Clinton had won all of these states, their total of 46 Electoral College votes would have been enough for her to win the White House.

Stein raised about $6 million in two days to file for the recounts, while her campaign could only raise $3.5 million for the November 8 presidential election.

“Little actual evidence is offered outside of Stein's presentation of media speculation, reports of allegations by various government agencies and Hillary Clinton's campaign, and an affidavit from an ‘expert’ who himself has stated publicly that he does not believe there was hacking or other malfeasance involved in the disparity between exit polls and the official tally but, rather, it was the result of problems with the exit poll methodology,” DeBar wrote in the petition, which was obtained by Press TV.

“In that context, the basis of her case, resting as it does upon the information, such as it is, as presented, and her stated belief, deserves strict scrutiny,” he added.

DeBar wrote, “It appears that petitioner Jill Stein may have committed perjury in the process of the preparation and filing of the petition, with the apparent intent of fraudulently inducing the State of Wisconsin to conduct the recount, and, perhaps, to induce the thousands of reported donors to the effort to force this recount to do so.”

“Consequently, I hereby request that the petition be opposed and a denial sought by your office, and that your office conduct a formal investigation into these allegations,” he concluded.

Trump has denounced the recount effort as a “scam,” insisting voters should "accept this result and then look to the future."

"This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than one percent of the vote overall and wasn't even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount," Trump said in a statement on Saturday.
