Trump deceived voters with anti-establishment image: Analyst

The American society seems to be more divided than ever before since Donald Trump won the 8th November presidential election. Mass protests have been held on an almost daily basis, with protesters warning that Trump would drag America into chaos and make the society an unsafe place for minorities. The president-elect has even fueled concerns in recent days through several key appointments which drew angry reactions from his opponents. In this edition of The Debate, Press TV has interviewed Rob Kall, editor-in-chief of opednews from Philadelphia, and Frederick Peterson, a US congressional defense policy adviser from New York, to discuss Trump's cabinet appointments and nominations.

Rob Kall described US President-elect Donald Trump as a “liar” who has deceived the American nation with his slogans to shake off the establishment.

“He promised to clean out the swamp, [but] he appointed Reince Priebus, the head of the GOP. That is the second most powerful person at the White House. Where is that cleaning out the swamp or standing up to the establishment? It's not.” he exclaimed.

According to Kall, Trump is appointing people who don’t respect the constitution, or the law, or individuals from different faiths. The appointees are dangerous threats to the constitution and the democracy that, according to him, has been built over the last 50 years in the US.

“I think there were a lot of people in America who voted for Trump because they were hoping that he would bring an end to this situation, that he would drain the swamp and make the real change happen. But that is not what we are seeing. We are seeing Trump putting his arms around and deeply embracing the Republican establishment, the most right wing, the most extreme conservatives, the biggest haters, the most intolerant people in the Republican Party,” he underscored.

“Trump is not the independent that people were hoping. He is not draining the swamp. He is not cleaning the system. He is diving in deep.”

“The signal Trump is sending is that I got you, I tricked you and now I am going to do what I wanted to do because that is what I do. Keep in mind this guy is a narcissist, a psychopath and they do things to control other people for themselves," Kall concluded.

The image grab shows Rob Kall (L), an editor-in-chief of opednews from Philadelphia, and Frederick Peterson, a US congressional defense policy adviser from New York, at Press TV's 'The Debate' show on Saturday night.

The other panelist on the show however, Frederick Peterson, maintained that Trump's appointments show that he is determined to accomplish the promises he made during his campaign, asserting that his cabinet is definitely going to be the most anti-establishment and anti-elite cabinet the US has seen in recent times.

Mr. Trump is remaining loyal to the promises he made to the disenchanted, disaffected outsiders from both parties, Peterson said.

“It is particularly insightful to note that the anti-establishment impulse came not just from or even primarily from the Republican Party, but from disenchanted Republicans and Democrats and independents,” he noted.

Peterson also argued that Trump's election, along with the Brexit vote in the UK, revealed an underlying impulse on the part of the people to rise up and throw off the elites and to reclaim their government for themselves, adding that Trump is enjoying the support of a large number of voters who didn’t vote in previous elections because they felt an increasing distance between their ideals and those of the government.

“With failures of previous governments and the malaise of communities, it is time to change. It is time to drain the swamp and in Donald Trump, we have hope,” the analyst underlined.
