At least one person has been shot dead at Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City, the capital of the US state of Oklahoma, police says.
The Will Rogers World Airport was closed due to the Tuesday afternoon shooting in a parking lot.
"We can confirm that victim from shooting at WRWA is deceased. Airport still on lockdown as investigation is ongoing," Oklahoma City Police said on Twitter.
Later, the victim was identified as Michael Winchester, 52, a Southwest Airlines employee and former University of Oklahoma football player.
"It is with great sorrow that Southwest Airlines confirms that a Southwest Employee who was injured during a shooting incident today at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has died from injuries," the airline said in a statement.
Earlier. the Oklahoma City police twitter account urged anyone stock inside to take shelter.
"If you are inside of the airport, shelter in place until advised otherwise," it said.
Oklahoma City Police Captain Paco Balderrama said that the cops were looking for a possible second victim as hunt for a suspect continued.
"Investigators have several leads of a possible suspect," he said
Meanwhile, airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said all operations were suspended at the airport, through which 7,000 to 8,000 move every day.
According to Oklahoma's Emergency Medical Services Authority, the first victim was transferred to an area hospital while in a critical condition bfore his death.
As nearby streets were blocked off, people were also urged to avoid the airport.
