Trump: Somali migrants in Minnesota ‘a disaster’
US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has once again attacked America’s migrant population, this time saying that the mostly Muslim migrants from Somalia are causing a “disaster” in the state of Minnesota.
Speaking at a rally in Minneapolis on Sunday, Trump said the Somali-American migrants were joining the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group and were resettled in the mostly Democratic state of Minnesota without people’s “approval.”
“Here in Minnesota, you’ve seen firsthand the problems caused with faulty refugee vetting, with very large numbers of Somali refugees coming into your state without your knowledge, without your support or approval,” he told his supporters.
“Some of them [are] joining Isis and spreading their extremist views all over our country and all over the world,” he added.
“Everybody’s reading about the disaster taking place in Minnesota,” the real estate mogul went on. “You don’t even have the right to talk about it.”
Trump has on many occasions attacked the administration of President Barack Obama for its refugee policies, making it clear that, if elected, he would move to block or severely cut the refugee flow to the country.
The candidate has also pledged to deport millions of immigrant families from the US, prompting outrage among Muslim Americans and Hispanics.
Trump says he would build an "impenetrable" wall on the US-Mexican border if elected president.
Last week the nominee raised eyebrows at a rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by suggesting that his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton would “triple the size” of American population in a week by accepting millions of refugees.
“You could have 650 million people pour in and we'd do nothing about it. Think of it. That's what could happen. You triple the size of our country in one week. Once you lose control of your borders you just have no country folks, you have no country,” he said.
His latest remarks about Somali American migrants were reminiscent of his proposed temporary ban on all Muslims entering the US.
Trump has openly accused Syrian refugees in America of being a “Trojan horse,” claiming that “a lot” of them are members of Daesh.
