US cannot afford new war in Middle East: Iran commander

Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the second-in-command of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps

A senior Iranian commander says the United States cannot bear the financial burden of another war in the Middle East.

“Today, the enemy has failed in its assumptions and calculations and we are witnessing for the first time that the Americans have plunged into recession because of war,” Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the second-in-command of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said on Tuesday.

He added that the existing political and economic realities bar the US from launching any military move.

The commander said Iran has put on display its military might in all fields and established its presence in a vast region from the Red Sea to the Eastern Mediterranean.

“This is a fact that we have not allowed what America wanted to take place,” Salami pointed out.

The IRGC commander said Iran is presently an important player in global power equations.

Salami had stated in September that the IRGC is increasing its defense and deterrence capabilities day by day without any halt in order to counter enemies, stressing that Iran is building the structures of a major power, which would be able to tip the real balance of power in favor of Muslims.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other states that its military might poses no threat to other countries since the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is based entirely on deterrence.
