The campaign manager of US Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton has called on the FBI to release details of the emails it found “pertinent” to an investigation into her use of private email server, as Director James Comey wrote in a letter to the Republican-controlled Congress in the run-up to the US 2016 presidential election.
Robby Mook said on “Fox News Sunday” that the three-paragraph letter contained little information about the revival of the former secretary of state’s email scandal, suggesting that Comey is playing a political game in favor of GOP nominee Donald Trump, ahead of the November 8 vote.
The Clinton campaign was “concerned and disturbed” by the move, said the former first lady’s campaign manager.
“We need all the information,” Mook said. "That’s what we’re asking…Just get all of it out there and the voters can judge for themselves.”
Since Comey (pictured above) refused to recommend criminal charges against Clinton in July, he has been under “tremendous pressure” from top GOPers as well as Trump, he noted.
American voters were “particularly puzzled” as there was not enough information in the letter Comey sent to US congressional leaders on Friday, Mook said, further praising him for his “long and distinguished record.”
The FBI chief wrote that they “learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation."
"The FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant, and I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work," read the letter.
Mook said, however, that “We don’t know anything, and this close to an election. This unprecedented announcement of new information when it’s been reported … that the FBI may have not even seen it, that Director Comey sent this unprecedented letter shortly before the election when he doesn’t even know what the information is.”
“It’s entirely possible that they are all duplicates of emails the FBI already looked at months ago,” he added.
The Clinton campaign also put together a video ad to make the case for the former New York senator.
According to the ad, “Director Comey owes it to the American people to say what he has and both campaigns agree on that point.”
