US polls not reflecting Americans’ will: Commentator

US Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, has reduced the double-digit gap with her Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, to only one point in one of the major national polls. Trump’s surge in support was largely attributed to the recent controversies surrounding Clinton’s email case.

A political commentator believes the polls in the United States are being “manipulated,” adding that they are not reflecting the will of the American people.

“Trump is an outsider. He is coming in new. He does not have any political history, he has no political experience. He is coming as an agent of change,” Mike Harris told Press TV in an interview on Sunday.

He also opined that the American people who seek change in the country will vote for Donald Trump.

The commentator also argued that Washington’s mismanaged foreign policy, which has gotten the country into a horrible position, needs to be examined and reversed.

“Trump is right on when he talks about the free trade agreements. It has been a disaster to this country. The open border, another disaster to this country, [and in the field of] foreign policy, the US is really off-base on foreign policy. Let me just point out one thing. If 9/11 had not happened and the US was doing this kind of foreign policy, we would be a pariah in the world,” he said.

Harris further stated that the Americans have lost their ability to influence the “political events” in the United States due to a one-party system in the country which is the establishment party.

The commentator went on to say that the United States does not have a two-party system because the donors to both the Democratic and Republican parties are the same.

“The establishment [party] has locked down the political process in the United States so that the Americans no longer have a voice,” he added.

Clinton was leading Trump 50 percent to 38 percent according to previous polls, but in the latest poll released on Sunday, Trump reduced Clinton’s 12-point lead from last week to only one percentage point, trailing her 45 percent to 46 percent.
