Western powers, malefactors in Syria: Analyst

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has passed a resolution calling for investigation into alleged rights violations in the Syrian city of Aleppo. Russia has condemned the resolution, describing it as “pathetic".

An analyst believes the situation in Aleppo is “very complex”, adding that it is “politics” that may be driving the UNHRC resolution rather than a concern for war crimes.

“And the reason is that the sponsor of the resolution is the UK and it may be animus toward Russia and its desire to protect the main terrorist group in Aleppo which in fact is holding the civilians hostage in east Aleppo,” Alfred Lambremont Webre, a war crimes lawyer, told Press TV.

Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, has been divided between the government troops and foreign-backed terrorists since 2012. The Syrian army, backed by Russian fighter jets, have begun a major offensive on September 22 to drive out the terrorists occupying the eastern part of the strategic city.

The analyst also stated since the UN Human Rights Council has adopted this resolution which is a “partisan measure”, Russia may want to introduce its own resolution which includes all of Syria.

He further noted it has become apparent now that the “malefactors” in Syria are the Western powers who have been covertly backing international terrorism in order to defeat the lawful government of President Bashar al-Assad.

“So I say take this resolution and expand it to all of Syria and go after all of the war crimes and then make it say expel all international terrorists from Syria. They are the ones that are causing the war crimes here,” Webre said.

Since March 2011, Syria has been gripped by deadly militancy it blames on some Western states and their regional allies including Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Over the past few months, the Takfiri terrorists have suffered major setbacks as the Syrian army has managed to liberate several areas.
