Iran thrashes Thailand 64-23 in 2016 Kabaddi World Cup

The national Iranian men’s kabaddi team has continued its impressive run at the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in India, achieving an emphatic win by more than three dozen points over Thailand.

On Sunday, the Iranian outfit, who had subdued the US team 52-15 in its opening Pool B match the previous day, vanquished the Southeast Asian side 64-23 in their second group stage fixture at the iconic stadium The Arena by TransStadia in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad.

Earlier in the day, Japan had thrashed the United States 45-19 and South Korea had defeated Argentina 68-42.

The Iranians are scheduled to take on their Kenyan counterparts in their third encounter on Tuesday.

The 2016 Kabaddi World Cup began in Ahmedabad, India, on October 7 and will finish on October 22.

Iran is pitted against the United States, Poland, Kenya, Thailand and Japan in Pool B.

India, Bangladesh, England, Austarlia, South Korea and Argentina form Pool A.

Kabaddi is the national game of Bangladesh and also the state game of the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Punjab.

India has the most successful Kabaddi team on the world stage, having won every World Cup and Asian Games title so far, in both men’s and women’s categories.
