A Gentoo penguin in China has undergone emergency surgery for accidentally swallowing a pebble.

Footage shows that the penguin kept a pebble in its mouth, when another penguin tried to seize it, and the first penguin swallowed the stone quickly to retain it.

Gentoo penguins usually collect pebbles to build nests. After the penguin was admitted to a hospital, doctors conducted a gastroscope inspection on the bird immediately.

They say almost all the tools they used were made on the spot because their medical facilities are designed for human beings.
