US President Barack Obama should “pledge” not to pardon Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for her many crimes against America, says Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Speaking at a rally in suburban Detroit on Friday, Trump said, “Clinton and her co-conspirators” were not above the law and should be held responsible for their deeds.
“Here’s a demand I’m making today to President Obama,” Trump said. “Mr. President, will you pledge not to issue a pardon to Hillary Clinton and her co-conspirators for their many crimes against our country and against society itself? Will you make that pledge? No one is above the law. Clinton and her cronies will do say or lie about anything to keep their grip on power.”
To cast the former secretary of state as a crook, Trump pointed to a range of scandals surrounding her and former president Bill Clinton—from the use of an email server to Bill’s pardoning of a commodities trader named March Rich.
Trump said Clinton should promise that, if elected, she will not use staffers who plead the Fifth Amendment or took immunity deals from the FBI during the investigation into her email case.
“She lied to Congress so many times, and how about her people and representatives taking the Fifth Amendment and her ringleaders getting immunity deals,” Trump said. “We call them now the ‘FBI Immunity Five’. So listen to this, here’s my question for Hillary Clinton. Can you promise that not one of the five people who were granted criminal immunity will ever be allowed in a Clinton administration if that ever happens?”
The New York businessman criticized Clinton for giving paid speeches, saying that “she would put the oval office up for sale” if she gets the chance.
Trump has also accused the former first lady of brokering power in favor of people who make contributions to the Clinton Foundation.
