Vote for 3rd parties will be death knell for 2-party system: Analyst

“Clearly, President Obama fears the people voting not just their conscience but their interests because he knows that that would be the death knell of the Democratic and Republican parties,” Myles Hoenig told Press TV on Friday.

US President Barack Obama is afraid that if Americans vote according to their conscience and their interests, it would be the "death knell" of the Democratic and Republican parties, an American political analyst and activist says.

On Wednesday, the US leader advised voters to refrain from voting for any of the third-party presidential candidates. Obama, who is openly campaigning for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, said during an interview that voting for third-party candidates, or not voting at all, only helps Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Myles Hoenig told Press TV on Friday that the reason Obama is “warning American voters not to vote for third parties is simply because the country knows the Democrats do not have a candidate favored by a majority of Americans and any vote not for Hillary Clinton hurts her chances to win the Presidency.”

“For years, the Democrats, and often the Republicans, use the argument that the other side is worse, yet rarely promote why their candidate is the best. With Clinton it’s done to an extreme. Hillary Clinton has policies that are not original, are a continuation of past administrations’ policies, and often the rhetoric stolen from other candidates, solely for the purpose of trying to win an election,” he stated.

“Much of her present positions come directly from Sanders’s campaign and even her last line in the first debate was stolen directly from Jill Stein of the Green Party. ‘Vote like your life depends on it, because it does,’” said Hoenig, a Green Party candidate for Congress.

'Clinton stole primary elections'

The analyst said, “President Obama’s support for Clinton reflects his view that the democratic process is more of an annoyance rather than the bedrock of American ideology.”

“The Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton stole the primary elections in many states. Many are calling for the votes to be nullified throughout the country. He’s using the fear of another ‘Nader’ when in fact that election was stolen by the Bush machine in Florida and Washington, DC. Again, stealing elections are OK for him, but real people’s sentiments and conscientious voting are a threat to his party,” he said, referring to Ralph Nader, former Green Party presidential nominee who received nearly three million votes in the 2000 election.

“Hillary Clinton represents the worst of capitalism: murderous imperialism, exploitation of labor and the environment, corporatism. Third parties, and the Green Party in particular, are direct threats to this corporate way of life,” the activist said.

“The Democrats support the banks by bailing them out. The Green Party wants the bankers held accountable. Clinton supports the continuing indebtedness of college students for student loan whereas Stein supports a cancellation of such debt. All the other candidates support the health insurance industry’s control of our healthcare. The Green Party sees healthcare as a right, not a commodity,” he pointed out.

“Clearly, President Obama fears the people voting not just their conscience but their interests because he knows that that would be the death knell of the Democratic and Republican parties,” the commentator said in his concluding remarks.
