Iranian athletes collect two more gold medals in Asian Beach Games
Iranian athletes have stood atop the podium to raise the Islamic Republic's total medal count at the fifth edition of the Asian Beach Games in Vietnam.
The Iranians demonstrated commendable displays of aptitude on Tuesday, with 28-year-old kurash wrestler Elyas Ali Akbari vying in the men’s minus 81-kilogram weight category competitions in the south-central Vietnamese city of Da Nang, and prevailing over Mukhammadali Shamsidinov from Uzbekistan in the final encounter to take the gold medal.
Ali Samari took part in the men's shot put competitions, and picked a gold medal for the Islamic Republic with a winning throw of 18.29 meters.
The silver and bronze medals went to Chinese shot putter Guo Yanxiang and Juntima Promrob from Thailand with winning throws of 17.78 and 17.10 meters in their final attempts.
Earlier in the day, Iranian sprinter Reza Ghasemi claimed the men’s 60-meter silver medal with a running time of 6.55 seconds.
Oman’s 28-year-old Barakat Mubarak Mabrook al-Harthi clocked 6.44 seconds to receive the gold medal.
Chinese competitor Pan Xinyue set 6.77 second to earn the bronze.
The 5th edition of Asian Beach Games opened in Da Nang on September 24 and will run until October 3.
Iranian athletes have already taken home nine medals, five golds, two silvers and two bronzes, putting the Islamic Republic in the fourth slot of the medal count table so far.
Vietnam tops the medal count table with 58 medals, 18 gold, 17 silver, and 23 bronze medals.
Thailand is second with 45 medals, 18 gold, 12 silver, and 15 bronze medals, and China is third with a total of 25 medals, six gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Uzbekistan are in the 5th to 10th places respectively.
