Iran women’s national under-19 soccer team has conceded defeat against Thailand in a warm-up match for the qualifiers of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-19 Women’s Championship 2017.
On Sunday, the young Iranian sportswomen sustained a 1-4 loss at the hands of their Thai counterparts in a match staged in Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok.
Melika Motevalli scored the consolation goal for Iranian women’s national under-19 soccer team.
The defeat came a day after Iranian teenage girls were held to a 1-1 draw against players from Chonburi football club.
The qualifiers for the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship 2017 will be held from October 29 to November 6, 2016.
Iran has been pitted against India, the Philippines and Vietnam in Group D of the qualification tournament.
Australia, Jordan, Lebanon, Singapore and the Northern Mariana Islands are drawn in Group A.
Group B comprises Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Palestine and Thailand are in Group C.
The 2017 AFC U-19 Women's Championship, which will be the 9th edition of the Asian tournament, will be held in China next August, with a total of eight teams competing.
The top four teams in the 2015 edition of the AFC U-19 Championship in China – Japan North Korea, South Korea and China – have received a direct qualification to the tournament.
