Real Madrid have missed out on a record-breaking 17th consecutive La Liga victory as Villarreal held them to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Sergio Ramos was the hero and the villain for Los Blancos on Wednesday. Just seconds before the half time whistle, the defender blocked Samu's shot with his hand and the referee didn’t hesitate to point to the spot. Bruno Soriano stepped up and chipped the ball over the keeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

But, Ramos made amends soon after the restart by heading home a 48th-minute corner kick by James Rodriguez. Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo all went close to inking Madrid's latest entry into the history books but they just couldn’t find the breakthrough as the match ended in a 1-all draw.
