Israeli forces shoot Palestinian youth over alleged stabbing attack

Israeli police forces gather around a Palestinian man lying on the ground after being shot and injured at Herod’s Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds, September 19, 2016.

Israeli military forces have shot and injured a young Palestinian man in Jerusalem al-Quds, saying he carried out a stabbing attack against them.

Israeli media outlets said a Palestinian youth carried out the alleged stabbing attack against two Israeli police officers at Herod’s Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds on Monday morning.

A female officer was said to have sustained serious wounds, and a male officer was allegedly moderately injured.

Israeli forces at the site immediately opened fire, injuring the Palestinian.

The alleged stabbing attack came only a day after Israeli military forces shot and injured a Palestinian man near the entrance to the illegal Efrat settlement, located 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) south of Jerusalem al-Quds.

Israeli media said the Palestinian man stabbed an Israeli trooper “near the armpit.”

On Saturday morning, a Palestinian youth was shot dead after allegedly conducting a stabbing attack at a security checkpoint near the Tel Rumeida neighborhood in the West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron), located 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of Jerusalem al-Quds.

The occupied Palestinian territories have witnessed increased tensions ever since Israeli forces imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds in August 2015.

More than 240 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the tensions since the beginning of last October.
