Iran’s Para-cyclist dies after crash in Rio race

Iran’s Bahman Golbarnezhad has died following a crash during the men’s C4/C5 Rio Paralympics road race.

Iranian Para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad has died following an accident during men’s C4/C5 road race at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Golbarnezhad was involved in a serious crash on Saturday and sustained severe injuries to his neck. The 48-year-old rider received emergency treatment at the scene before being transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Golbarnezhad who was 14th in the time-trial on Wednesday also competed at the London Paralympics 4 years ago.
