Britain has temporarily closed its embassy in the Turkish capital of Ankara over mounting fears of terrorist attacks.

“The British Embassy Ankara will be closed to the public on Friday 16 September for security reasons,” the Foreign Office said.

“The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to within 10 km of the border with Syria and to the city of Diyarbakir.”

Diyarbakir is where mostly militants from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party reside.

The developments came a few days after Germany, in a similar move, closed its embassy for precautionary measures.

The French government has also closed down its embassy and consulate in the Turkish cities of Ankara and Istanbul.

Turkish security officials say they have arrested four people over reports of potential threats against British and German diplomatic missions.

Turkey has been hit by a series of terrorist attacks and violence by Daesh (ISIL) terrorists and the PKK forces.
