Mexico and the roots of poverty

Mexico is internationally known as a highly unequal country. Previous studies have clearly shown that Mexico's income inequality is significantly more pronounced that the Latin American average.  Latin America, itself, is a region that has the highest degree of inequality in the world. 

But what are the main causes of poverty in this country?
