Costa Rica has hosted the 8th Annual Whale and Dolphin Festival. The whale watching season in the country runs from July to October but the peak month to see sea animals' migration is September.
The main attraction of the festival is the arrival of humpback whales that travel almost 8000 kilometers, and give birth in Costa Rican waters.
The event includes additional activities such as dolphin watching, family walks, cycling and beach volleyball. Cultural events such as sand sculpture contests, parades, artistic performances and lectures are also offered.
The festival has become the most important event for tourists. It attracted over 40,000 visitors last year.
