China unveils world's tallest Confucius statue

World's tallest Confucius statue unveiled in China's eastern Province of Shandong.

China has unveiled a 72-meter statue of famous philosopher and writer Confucius.

The statue was unveiled in the philosopher’s hometown of ‘Nishan’. Confucius was born in 551 Before Christ in the eastern Province of Shandong.

The statue is taller than New York's Statue of Liberty. Many say it’s the tallest statue of Confucius in the world so far.

The project to build the massive structure began in May 2012 and was finally completed last month. Tourists can visit the statue but the official opening date is yet to be announced.
