"Fireball Festival" observed in El Salvador

"Fireball Festival"

An annual festival has been held in El Salvador in which youngsters hurl fireballs at each other.

Dozens of daredevils divided into two teams literally fought each other with fireballs. Nejapa which is located north of the capital San Salvador has been hosting the “fire fight” as part a Fireball Festival that dates back to more than a century ago.

The hot and hazardous tradition began after the 1658 eruption of a local volcano called El Playon which forced all the residents to abandon the town.

The festival has also some religious followers who associate the competition with fighting the Devil. This is while authorities find the game very dangerous as its rules dictate that there are no rules.
