Six teenage boys arrested after death of immigrant worker in UK

40-year –old polish immigrant Arkadiusz Jozwik (the Guardian)

Six teenage boys have been arrested in England following the death of an immigrant factory worker in an incident the police says could be a hate crime.

On Tuesday, Radek Jozwik visited the site of the incident in Harlow, Essex, where he lost his brother, Arkadiusz.

The attack apparently happened after 40-year –old Arkadiusz and his friends were heard speaking their native language, Polish, on Saturday.

A second Polish man survived with police not ruling out that the attack might be a hate crime, The Guardian reported.

“He was standing eating pizza and they picked on him because of that. He does not speak much English. The young teenagers are so aggressive,” Radek said. “Parents need to speak with their children – they are out of control. One of the teenagers started and then seconds later there are 10 or 12 people attacking him.”

Following the attack outside shops in an area of Harlow, called The Stow, the man was hospitalized over head injuries, to which he succumbed on Monday.

Police initially arrested five boys, four 15-year-olds and one 16-year-old, and later a sixth one.

“This is now a murder investigation and our inquiries have quickly led to the arrest of five teenage boys. Following this vicious attack, a man has sadly lost his life and I urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible,” said the senior investigating officer, DI Al Pitcher, of the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate earlier.

Xenophobia and hate crimes appear to be on the rise in the UK following a referendum in June, in which the people voted to leave the European Union.

“After the Brexit vote it has got worse – I have seen people change – it is hard at the moment,” Radek said.

He added that their mother, who was on holiday when the attack occurred, had been notified.

We had to meet her at Stansted airport and tell her and then take her straight to the hospital. She is really struggling,” he said.
