Iran moves up three places in latest FIVB rankings

The national Iranian volleyball team has climbed three places in the August edition of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) rankings to land among the top ten outfits in the world, thanks to its admirable performance at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to the newest rankings released by the international governing body for the sports of indoor, beach and grass volleyball, the Iranian team racked up 163 points and claimed the seventh slot in the global rankings of national volleyball teams. The Iranian outfit was also named as the top soccer squad in Asia.

Brazil holds its position as the top-ranked volleyball team in the world, with 315 points.

Belgium accumulated 268 points to stay put and occupy the second position.

The third-placed American contingent collected 268 points and climbed three spots. Italy maintained its place and stood fourth with 256 points.

Other Asian teams were Japan, which kept its position and assumed the 14th slot in the latest FIVB rankings with 66 points.

Japan men's national volleyball team is followed by Australia and China, which finished in the 15th and 20th places with 65 and 50 points.

While Australia plunged two positions in the global rankings of national volleyball teams, China dropped one position.
