China’s Shenzhen city has hosted a unique international drone race in which the contestants had the chance to fly around simulated reality.
The D1 Drone Asia Cup brought together 20 international teams. They risked drowning their drones in order to win, as they hovered the aerial vehicles over the LED-lit water tracks.
The 2-hour-race provided the pilots and the audience with a first-person view of all the action taking place in the arena.
The technology involved a complex ‘zero-latency’ HD video transmission system and virtual reality headsets worn by the contestants throughout the competition.
The live-stream video may have made the race more difficult, but it is deemed to be essential for a competition that has extra spice and speed.
Throughout the race, some drones took up their pace to as fast as 180 kilometers per hour, but none other than two cleared various barriers and gates with their break-neck speeds.
The race lasted for 2 hours and the first and the second place were claimed by Korean and Chinese teams respectively.
