The quarterfinal-bound Iran has finished 4th in Pool B of the Olympics volleyball tournament after losing to Russia in their last match of the preliminary round.
The teams were neck and neck in the first set on Monday; however, the Russians who served better throughout the match finished on top 25-23.
Russia had an easier task in the second set due to Iran’s below-par performance and took the set with a comfortable 9-point advantage at 25-16.
There was no comeback for Iran in the 3rd set as they ended up conceding the set 25-20 and suffered their 3rd defeat at the Games.
Iran had already been guaranteed a spot among the last-8 after two back-to-back wins against Cuba and Egypt. They will face Pool A winners Italy in the quarterfinals.
