Iran’s 7-a-side soccer team finishes 1st in world championship

The Iranian men’s national 7-a-side football team

The Iranian men’s national 7-a-side football team has claimed the title of the 2016 International Federation of CP Football (IFCPF) World Championships Qualification Tournament in Denmark with an unblemished winning record.

On Saturday, the Iranian outfit, which had defeated Portugal 5-1 in a semi-final match on August 4, vanquished the Scottish squad 4-0 in the title clash staged at Vejen Idrætscenter in the southern city of Vejen.

The Iranians started the match with fairly high verve and dynamism, and Jasem Bakhshi opened the score nineteen minutes after the game began.

The Iranian sportsmen kept their composure as they returned to action. They maintained the lead, and Mehdi Jamali doubled Iran's lead only two minutes after the interval.

Bakhshi netted his second goal in the 58th minute, and Ehsan Masoumzadeh put the ball into the back of the net just seconds before the referee Carlos Dias blew his whistle and declared the end of the match.

The 2016 IFCPF World Championships Qualification Tournament started on July 29 and wrapped up on August 6.

The 7-a-side football is a form of association football for athletes with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders, namely stroke and traumatic brain injury.  Matches consist of two 30-minute halves, with a 15-minute interval, and are played with modified FIFA rules.
