US Green Party warns of election fraud
The US Green Party has warned of “election fraud” in the country, which it says includes unfair ballot access laws to prevent independent candidates from taking part in the election process.
Scott McLarty, the Green Party’s media coordinator, said Thursday that the “Democratic nomination process was rigged.”
McLarty noted that it’s one of the main reasons people across the US are joining the Green Party.
“In 2004, we saw election fraud, election irregularities take place in a few states, especially Ohio and possibly New Mexico too,” he said.
“Regarding election fraud now, we have to be very vigilant, McLarty added.
“The Green Party expands the definition of election fraud and election irregularities to include unfair ballot access laws that were enacted by Democratic and Republican lawmakers specifically to give their own candidates an advantage and hinder the possibility of alternative party and independent candidates from participating in the election process.”
Earlier in July, a series of leaked emails from several senior members of the Democratic National Committee showed an insider effort to undercut Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential election campaign.
The revelation sparked chaos inside the Democratic Party and a series of attacks from Republicans.
Third-party candidates campaigning for the 2016 US presidential election are gaining more support among voters as Republican and Democratic nominees continue to struggle with their unparalleled unpopularity, polls show.
Recent polling averages by RealClearPolitics hint at a steady yet significant rise in support for Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee Gary Johnson, going from 4.5 percent to 7.2 percent over the past six weeks.
Green Party candidate Jill Stein has also enjoyed a surge in support. She is now supported by 3.5 percent of the voters, up from 2.5 percent in June.
The figures, although minimal, may dramatically affect the outcome of the November election, should voters in some states opt for anyone but Republican nominee Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
Trump and Clinton are both ranked among the most unpopular presidential candidates in America’s history.
