The national Iranian men’s junior handball team has recorded an overwhelming win at the preliminary round of the 15th edition of the Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship in Jordan, trouncing the hosts by a wide margin.

On Friday evening, the Iranian outfit delivered an emphatic and fairly energetic performance in its opening match in the Jordanian capital Amman, and managed to subdue Jordan 41-17.

In other matches of the day, Qatar edged past China 36-20, and Japan romped to a 49-15 victory over Palestine.

Iran is scheduled to take on Uzbekistan in its second group stage match on Sunday evening.

It serves as the qualification tournament for the 2017 International Handball Federation (IHF) Men's Junior World Championship, which will be held in Algeria.

Iran has been drawn alongside Uzbekistan and the hosts in Group A of the championship.

Japan, Palestine and Saudi Arabia form Group B, while Bahrain, India and South Korea are put in Group C. Group D consists of China, Iraq, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
