Video shows landslide crashing into houses in China village

A video has emerged of a dramatic moment of a landslide in China, where it crushed down the mountains and destroyed roads and houses on its way down a village.

Chinese broadcaster CCTV released the video on Sunday, showing the moment a mudslide crushing down a village in central Hunan Province.

It destroyed all 14 houses located at the bottom of the mountain, causing traffic to be shut down.

No casualties were reported as more than 650 residents were evacuated before the incident. Some 244,000 people were affected by the incident.

Roads are still blocked as the local government has started an emergency plan, sending workers to clear the road and conduct repairs.

According to CCTV, the landslide was caused by heavy and continuous rain and bad weather in the region. Rain started again on Monday morning and slowed down the repair efforts.

A similar footage emerged last week, showing another landslide crushing down the mountains in southwest China's Sichuan province on July 8.

The video was captured by a passenger on board a bus that had come to a stop just before a large chunk of the mountain crashed to the road.

The driver of the bus managed to reverse the vehicle that was carrying 42 people just before the mudslide makes its way down the village,

Landslide is not an uncommon incident in China. At least 35 people were killed in a slide which struck a village in the Yecheng County of Kashgar Prefecture back in July.

Another landslide which was caused by heavy rain killed at least 22 people at the site of a hydropower project in China’s southeastern province of Fujian.
