Argentina unearths fossils of carnivorous dinosaur

Unearthed fossils from a carnivorous dinosaur that lived in Argentina about 90 million years ago show that it had tiny arms compared to its body.

Scientists have unearthed fossils of a two-legged, 8-meter-long predator dinosaur in Argentina's northern Patagonia.

Researchers say the carnivorous dinosaur, Gualicho, lived in Argentina about 90 million years ago. It lived during the Cretaceous Period, the final chapter in the dinosaurs' reign.

This illustration shows two Cretaceous Period predatory dinosaurs named Gualicho shinyae hunting smaller bipedal herbivorous dinosaurs in northern Patagonia 90 million years ago.

It had tiny arms compared to its body which means it would have had a hard time using strong-arm tactics against its prey.

‘Gualicho’ and other carnivorous dinosaurs are part of a group called ‘theropods’ that included Earth's largest-ever land predators.
