Iranian swimmer Aria Nasimi-Shad

Iranian swimmer Aria Nasimi-Shad, who solely represents the Islamic Republic at the swimming competitions at the forthcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, says he aims to improve the national record in breaststroke at the high-status sporting event.

“Following FINA Open Water Swim World Events 2016, I have been training in Mashhad. I will move to Tehran on Friday, and will be camping and training there just two or three days before the Olympics open. I will be training intensely to be fully prepared for the Games,” Nasimi-Shad said in an exclusive interview with ISNA news agency on Tuesday.

He further described it as a draconian task to clinch a medal at 2016 Olympic Games that requires a sound and well-laid plan, expressing optimism to better Iran’s 200-meter breaststroke instead.

Nasimi-Shad currently holds the Iran men’s 200-meter breaststroke record with 2 minutes and 18.88 seconds.

He won a wild card to Rio Olympics during FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) Open Water Swim World Events 2016 #3.The tournament was held in the Hungarian city of Balatonfüred on June 18, 2016.

The swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place from August 6 to 13 at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium.
