US presidential election system corrupt, farcical: Analyst

“The US election is truly a farce with its two-party system and its single-minded directive of US global hegemony,” says political commenattor Stewart Brennan.

US presidents are elected in a corrupt process that favors the two-party system of Democrats and Republicans, while preventing third-party candidates to enter the White House, says a political commentator in Montreal.

Stewart Brennan made the comments in reaction to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that shows there is growing demand for third-party candidates in the 2016 US presidential race.

According to the survey that was published on Saturday, 21 percent of likely voters are not willing to support presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and his Republican rival Donald Trump in the November election.

The growing demand for a third choice in the battle for the White House comes when, according to the poll, Americans don’t know much about the third party candidates.

The list so far includes Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico, and Green Party’s leading candidate Jill Stein.

“The US election is truly a farce with its two-party system and its single-minded directive of US global hegemony,” Brennan told Press TV on Sunday.

He said the “corrupt” election cycle in the US allows “criminals” and “shady characters” to lead the country, which is run mainly by the Republican and Democratic parties.

“Third-parties are never even given equal times on the airwaves nor are they heard by the public, which is why they are unknown,” he noted.

To challenge the current system, Brennan argued that candidates need millions of dollars in funds which is impossible without getting help from corporate sponsors that are connected to Washington and only offer support to candidates of the two major parties.

“Establishment candidates” was the term Brennan used to refer to those candidates.

The fact that Clinton has gotten a chance to run for presidency despite her direct involvement in many scandals proves how corrupt the US political system has become, the analyst argued.

“Clinton is a real criminal. How can she still be standing for election,” he asked.

Trump also is not eligible to run for the White House, Brennan said, citing the New York businessman’s racist remarks against Muslims and other minorities in the US.

He concluded by saying that those who really are capable of leading the country will never get a chance to do so, “especially with the US corporate military media which is in bed with the US banking oligarchy and the aggressive US foreign policy.”
