The Unites States has the highest rate of incarceration in the world. According to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, African Americans now constitute nearly one million of the total two-point-three million detained population and they are imprisoned at nearly six times the rate of the White. Together, African Americans and Hispanics comprised 58-percent of all prisoners in 2008, even though they make up approximately one quarter of the US population.
